The standing form of a Balinese woman's head. Handmade from exotic wood.
In Indonesia, carving has a great tradition. Masks carved from exotic wood, painted, often decorated with coconut fibre are a very popular addition to the interior. It's mostly used to hang on the wall. In Indonesia you can purchase masks currently made, but surely more expensive ancient artifacts can also be obtained. Balinesian masks say a lot about the culture of this nation. The appearance of the masks is inspired by the mythological and historical figures of kings and heroes who have performed in theatrical stories. The actors of these dance theatres wore these very masks on their faces. But local artists also depict demons, Buddha, simple man or animal. They can take real, but also abstract form.
