The Sumba is one of the great islands of the Little Sund. It is Indonesia's 13th largest island. The Sumba is the only island from all over Indonesia where animist religion is officially permitted. Teak wood (Tectona grandis), suar wood, mungur (Samanea Saman), albinos (Albizia falcata), popular for their strength and colour permanence, are all popular with exotic wood products. Softer exotic trees, such as mango (Magnifera indica), acacia (Acacia), are used to make carved and coloured housing accessories. Softer wood is made into sculptures, statuettes and various interior accessories. The price of wood hinges on the age of the tree trunk. The older and more mature the wood, its value is higher.
